The object collection of the Turku Museum Centre comprises around 280 000 objects. The collection has been accumulated since the beginning of the 1880s with donated, collected and bought objects. Objects from local gentry and bourgeois homes and manors form the foundation of the collection.

The cultural historical collection includes over 100 000 objects, the majority of which are kept in storage. The objects on display can be seen in the permanent and temporary exhibitions in the Turku Castle, the Luostarinmäki Handicrafts Museum and in the Pharmacy Museum and Qwensel House.

The collection represents all spheres of life and is expanded according to the museum’s collection management policy and the national documentation and collection collaboration programme (TAKO). The emphasis is on acquiring local objects from Turku and Southwest Finland.

Objects from the collection are constantly being transferred into the National Digital Library’s online service Finna. This includes the cataloguing of new accessions as well as the digitisation of older objects.
