The city of Turku offers multicultural early childhood education, which means that all children are taken into account equally and fairly regardless of age, gender or colour. In day-care services, the aim is to provide children belonging to cultural minorities with the opportunity to grow up in a multicultural society so that they can become a part of both their own cultural environment and Finnish society.

Turun iltalukio tarjoaa maahanmuuttajille suomen kielen alkeis- ja jatkokursseja. Nämä Finnish for Foreigners -kurssit on tarkoitettu niille, joilla on oleskelulupa ja jotka haluavat opiskella työpäivän jälkeen. Kaikkien kurssien suorittaminen kestää kaksi vuotta. Opiskelija voi suorittaa myös osan kursseista.
Lukuvuonna 2021–2022 alkeiskurssit pidetään tiistaisin ja torstaisin klo 16.15–17.35. Seuraavat alkeiskurssit ovat: FIN4 (periodi 14.2.–7.4.2022) sekä FIN5 (periodi 11.4.–2.6.2022). FIN4-kurssi lähtee taitotasolta A1.2.

Café Navigare is an inviting summer café on the back deck of the ship, with a view to the riverside landscape of the Aura River.
The café serves fresh pastries, savoury snacks and refreshing beverages.
Navigare’s deck areas on both sides of the ship are used as a café terrace. They are also licenced areas for serving alcoholic drinks.

What do we offer you here at Osaamiskeskus?
Immigrant’s ‘Osaamiskeskus’ provides job-seeking support for all residents of Turku whose mother-tongue is a language other than Finnish. Among other things, our services include enhancing your job opportunities and helping you develop your Finnish skills. The services are part of the new International House Turku services that are under construction.
The staff of Osaamiskeskus is offering advice to entrepreneurs and business owners in different languages, for example for making applications for financial support.

Grants:
The city offers different grants to individuals, organisations, societies, and associations. The purpose of the grant is to support e.g. the arrangement of services and activities.
Rentable facilities:
Rentable facilities include different banquet halls, gymnasiums, meeting and negotiation or club spaces, and gyms.

Työpiste offers help and guidance concerning employment. The main task of Työpiste is to bring work and workers together.
We serve you personally by phone, by mail and in appointed meetings at Työpiste. You can visit us also without an appointment. There are customer service terminals at your use to whose usage we offer guidance.
We serve the unemployed citizens of Turku in many ways. Information, guidance, counselling, training and jobs are available.

Finnishcourses.fi course search service is a part of immigrants’ Infopankki. It informs about Finnish and Swedish language courses in Turku, Helsinki and Tampere regions.
The Finnish Courses internet service collects all Finnish courses of all organizers in one place. The site can be utilized by students, teachers and anyone who is interested in the courses.
The service is in three languages: Finnish, English and Russian.

The job search of a Turku citizen starts from registering as an unemployed job seeker. One may register as a job seeker on the internet on:

One may also register in person at either Työpiste at the City of Turku or the Southwest Finland TE Office.

Integration training for young immigrants
The aim of integration training is that the student will reach functional basic language skills in Finnish. Integration training helps the immigrants to enter working life and get further education. TE Office guides the immigrant to integration training, which is implemented as labour market training, based on an initial assessment.

The Multicultural Council observes matters from an immigrant’s point of view, makes statements about matters related to immigrants and introduces initiatives in close co-operation with other influence groups in Turku.
The other influence groups in Turku are the Children’s Parliament, the Youth Council, the Disability Council, and the Council of Senior Citizens.
The Multicultural Council also promotes co-operation and dialogue between immigrant associations, and encourages immigrants to participate and influence the social decision-making.


Finnish language skills as well as knowledge about Finnish culture and history support social integration to the new home country. Turku City Recreation Division offers versatile opportunities for getting to know the city through culture and physical exercise.
Museums
Turku Museum Centre offers immigrants guided tours and workshops through which one can get to know Finnish history, nature, folklore and art. At the same time the central vocabulary of the subject will become familiar.

Now the flow of refugees that concerns the whole of Europe also reaches Turku, and cities play a key role in the social integration of immigrants.

The old henhouse in Kurala is available for hire. It is a unique place to host your birthday party, a conference, a lecture or a sporting event. You are free to organize your own catering and move the furniture around in the henhouse.

Multicultural early childhood education supports the growth of children with immigrant backgrounds into members of two cultures and the Finnish society. Early childhood education supports the integration process of the entire family. Multicultural and multiform early childhood education strengthens the growth of all children in the group to understand parity and respect differences, as the children have the possibility to get to know different cultures, their customs and habits under the guidance of an adult.

As an immigrant, you can receive family and social services from the City of Turku like all other Turku residents. The initial social services provide guidance when you need information about social services in general. The initial social services can also help you with applying for supplementary and preventive social assistance (financial aid).
