The task of the patient ombudsman is dictated by the Act on the Status and Rights of Patients. The patient ombudsman provides information about the patient’s rights and acts to promote and enforce them. The officer also helps the patient to make a reminder, complaint or a notice of patient injury to the Patient Insurance Centre.
The patient ombudsman is an impartial and independent expert and does not take a stand on medical care decisions, or whether a treatment injury has occurred in the patient’s care.
