Vaccinations at school are given according to the National Immunization Programme in effect at the given time.
The vaccinations of the child or young person are checked at health check-ups. If the child is a resident in Turku, the information about the child’s vaccinations is transferred from the child welfare clinic to school health care as the child starts school.
The school nurse and school doctor conduct individual health check-ups to the students at regular intervals.
Each health check-up includes health counselling. The subject matters of the counselling vary between years. The occasions and contents of the check-ups are based on the legislation concerning school and student health care (338/2011).
Health check-ups can be conducted also at other times if it is necessary for determining the student’s state of health.
School Health Care serves in all matters related to the physical and mental health of a comprehensive school student.
The school nurse and doctor can be contacted through School Health Care. In all matters related to the well-being of a student the school nurse should be contacted first.
An appointment to the school doctor must always be arranged through the school nurse.
In urgent cases of illness and outside school hours the primary place for care is the student’s own local health station.
School psychologists work in basic education, upper secondary schools and vocational institutions.
The parents, school or the student him/herself can contact the school psychologist when something related to the child’s development, upbringing, learning or emotional life raises concern. The school psychologist may be contacted by phone or through the Wilma student administration system.
The school psychologist conducts psychological examinations in order to detect learning difficulties, behavioural problems and concentration problems, for example.
School health care at schools functions as normally as possible and health check-ups for pupils begin as soon as the term starts.
